Gains were driven by consumer durables, utilities, and logistics, with solid rises from large-cap stocks like Toyota Motor (4.0%), Denso Corp. (3.1%), and Nippon Steel (1.1%). Honda Motor jumped 2.9%, gaining for the third session after announcing a share buyback and revealing merger talks with Nissan. Unlike many places globally, Japanese markets remain open throughout the week, with the last trading day for 2024 set for December 30.
