Qatar’s Financial Centre PMI fell to 51.7 in September 2024 from 53.1 in the previous month, yet still indicated expansion. The employment sector significantly contributed to this growth, with the non-energy private sector workforce expanding at its fastest rate on record, surpassing the previous peak from January 2019. However, rising demand for staff resulted in heightened wage pressures, with the Staff Costs Index reaching a new high of 59.4. Input price inflation also intensified, reaching its fastest pace since July 2020, although prices for goods and services fell at the quickest rate since January 2019. Meanwhile, overall business activity softened, mainly due to a slowdown in the construction sector. In contrast, the manufacturing, services, and wholesale & retail sectors experienced growth. Finally, confidence in the economic outlook strengthened, driven by ongoing demand for goods and services, resulting in a further build-up of outstanding business.
