Laos' inflation rate climbed to 40.3% year-on-year in January 2023, the highest in 23 years, from 39.3% in the previous month. Inflation has increased significantly since the beginning of 2022, underpinned by a sharp depreciation of the national currency, the kip. Main upward pressure came from prices of communications and transport (49.9%); food & non-alcoholic beverages (47.1%); health (42.2%); housing & utilities (34.2%) and hotels & restaurants (34%).

惠誉评级公司（Fitch Ratings）于2020年9月23日（星期三）将老挝主权信用评级从B-下调至CCC，并没有给出展望，这是冠状病毒冲击和该国巨额债务到期导致外部流动性压力不断加深的主要原因。穆迪对老挝的信用评级最后定为Caa2，前景展望为负面。

Fitch Ratings downgraded on Wednesday 23 September 2020 Laos’ sovereign credit rating to CCC from B- and assigned no outlook, citing as main trigger behind the cut deepening external liquidity pressures as a result of the coronavirus shock and the sovereign's large debt maturities. Moody's credit rating for Laos was last set at Caa2 with negative outlook.
