The KLSE tracked a slump in US stock futures, following a downbeat session on Wall Street on Friday amid fears of a global recession. Traders were cautious after the US imposed a 24% tariff on imported goods from Malaysia, effective from April 9, 2025. Malaysia is a key player in semiconductor exports, contributing 13% of global semiconductor testing. Last year, the US was the third-largest trading partner of Malaysia, representing 11.3% of total trade. Among the worst performers were Kuala Lumpur Kepong (-5.4%), Public Bank (-5.0%), Petronas Dagangan (-4.1%), Telekom Malaysia (-4.7%), IHH Healthcare (-3.7%), and Maybank (-3.5%).
