Malaysia’s leading economic index increased by 1.1% month-on-month in November 2024, strongly rebounding from a downwardly revised 0.1% decline in October. It was the first positive reading since July, with five out of seven components of the index posting positive results: the expected sales value for manufacturing (0.3% vs -0.04%), the Bursa Malaysia Industrial Index (0.2% vs -0.2%), real money supply (0.2% vs 0.03%), and real imports of other basic precious and non-ferrous metals (0.1% vs 0.03%). Meanwhile, negative performances were observed in the number of housing units approved (-0.2% vs -0.1%) and the number of new companies (-0.1% vs 0.2%). Yearly, the leading index rose by 2.5%, faster than a 1.5% rise in October. Meanwhile, the coincident index, which measures overall current economic performance, was almost stalled at 0.03%, after a 0.6% gain in October.
