Chancellor Olaf Scholz appointed a new finance minister yesterday after dismissing the previous one, effectively ending the ruling coalition and increasing pressure on the Chancellor to call a snap election. At the same time, the Fed lowered the fed funds rate by 25bps as expected and signaled a cautious approach to further easing. The auto sector was under pressure, namely BMW (-3.8%), Daimler Truck (-3.4%), Mercedes-Benz (-2.8%), VW (-2.1%). BASF (-4.1%), Deutsche Bank (-3.2%) and Continental (-2.4%) were also lower.

The German 10-year Bund yield fell below 2.4% as investors reacted to a busy week that included central bank meetings, Trump’s US election win, and the collapse of Germany’s government. The Friday dip followed a similar trend in U.S. Treasuries, which eased after the Federal Reserve's expected 25-basis-point rate cut, partially reversing Wednesday's spike triggered by Trump’s victory. In Europe, the focus also turned to the fallout from Germany’s government collapse, with opposition leaders and business groups urging Chancellor Olaf Scholz to call new elections swiftly.
