Traders saw the most significant improvement in sentiment (107.2 vs 103.7 in November), followed by service providers (98.9 vs. 97.3) and manufacturers (96.5 vs 96.3). On the other hand, confidence among constructors declined (86.3 vs 87.6).

The Economic Tendency Indicator for Sweden held steady at 97.5 in December 2024, unchanged from the previous month’s upwardly revised figure, indicating a slightly weaker-than-normal sentiment in the Swedish economy. Still, this was the highest reading since August 2022, driven by improvements across nearly all sub-indicators, notably for retail trade (+4.4 points to 111). Additionally, confidence indicators for the building & civil engineering industry (+1.6 points to 100.2), service sector (+1.6% to 98.9), and manufacturing industry (+0.2 points to 96.5) went up. Meanwhile, the consumer confidence indicator declined by 4.9 points to 96.7.

The consumer confidence indicator in Sweden dropped to 96.7 in December 2024, from a downwardly revised 101.6 in the previous month, reaching its lowest level in four months. Expectations weakened regarding the general economic situation (7 vs 24 in November), households’ financial situation (18 vs 26), and savings (50 vs 53). On the other hand, concerns about future unemployment eased slightly (20 vs 22), while consumers were less negative about making large purchases in the coming year (-11 vs -14).

Producer prices in Sweden rose by 0.3% year-on-year in November 2024, rebounding from a 1.3% decline in the previous month. Prices accelerated for consumer goods (3.7% vs 1.8% in October), while costs of capital goods recovered by 1.5%, following a 0.1% drop in the prior period. Conversely, deflation continued for energy-related products (-10% vs -12.9%). Excluding energy-related products, annual producer inflation came at 2.2%. On a monthly basis, producer prices increased by 3.1%, marking the highest reading since August 2022 and accelerating from 0.5% gain in the preceding period.
